Lady C & The Ballad of Dorothy Parker

What started as a theatre piece i created to one of my top favourite songs of all time turned into a collaborative project with sister, photographer & film artist Kitt Woodland and has now turned into a tribute to the late and great Prince after his unfortunate passing a week ago.I hope that this piece showcases my spirit and quality as a dancer and the spirit of Locking and Popping movement... but more so i hope it is a worthy visual interpretation of this piece of music. The reason I dance is first and foremost MUSIC and i am inspired to create works because of pieces of music like THIS that i feel transcend basic songwriting. The musical intricacies in this song are so beautifully placed and misplaced, sideways and unexpected all while staying right comfortably in the pocket, in that groove that sits in your soul... and THIS is what made Prince a genius in my mind.Of course i had hopes of Prince one day stumbling on this footage (or snatching it off the internet right away haha) but maybe he's watching it somewhere out there.... so this is for you Prince <3 thank you for your inspiration.
